Wine and Champagne Meetup for Autistic Women Held at French Consulate

At The French Institut, Kat, a no.6 user created the first social meetup for autistic women.

After finding lots of support groups for autism but no events specifically for autistic women to meet and relax with a glass of wine, Kat decided to make one herself.

With the help of her sister Iona, an events manager, the event was created to provide a free space for autistic women to socialise.

The Insitut Francais played host to the inaugural event which featured free wine, champagne and food in a beautiful setting.

Very quickly autistic women poured through the doors with many traveling from Dumbarton and Glasgow.

The French institute and former French consulate, is now a place for academic learning and appreciation of the French language and culture. The grand building has itself been in existence since the early 1800s with the receptionist telling me there are secret tunnels underneath joining the Institute with the nearby Signet Library and Law Courts.

One attendee noted "It's so nice to be able to come to a place where you can chat or sit with a glass of wine and a book and wind down the day surrounded by people like you."

Another noted "I feel so comfortable and powerful being in a room with people like me."

Nearby an attendee noted "The men have enough. It's lovely this is just for us girls."
